Onondaga County Municipal Employee Benefits Agreement

SYRACUSE N.Y. (WSYR TV) – Onondaga County and its largest union, CSEA Local 834, have reached an interim agreement. The benefits are great and would be significant for families who work for the county, as well as for single people without children or spouses. CSEA Onondaga County Local 834 thanks McMahon County and its team for being able to negotiate this preliminary agreement with us in the midst of the Covid 19 crisis. From the beginning, our members have served on the front lines of this pandemic and will continue to help our communities in these difficult times. We still need the federal government to take action and immediately support the state and the municipalities. Without them, the services that help our county – which our members provide – will be negatively affected. As local government staff, small monthly contributions for health and dental insurance costs alone () compared to what is covered (), most businesses eclipse the package of overall benefits, large and small, except probably for the federal government It allows wage increases while maintaining current health benefits. This preliminary agreement is a strong business for our employees and taxpayers in Onondaga County.

It is both fair and fiscally responsible that we face these difficult budgetary times. Thank you to CSEA Local 834 for their partnership and willingness to negotiate in good faith and thank you to our counties who work tirelessly to make us all proud to remember Onondaga County at home. The agreement is subject to a vote by union members, which is scheduled to take place from November 16 to November 30. Final results are expected on the evening of November 30. The agreement would cover the union`s approximately 2,000 employees by 2022. “If you`re engaged now, you have to pay for life.” Local 834 includes employees in various departments such as health, social services and institutions. Insurance costs are rising and too many restrictions on how we can use our time.
